“Back in the early days, that kind of second wave of deep house, whatever it was called, was a very exciting time for me in Manchester because between about ’91 and ’93 all these promos from Strictly Rhythm arrived at Vinyl Exchange, and one morning I had the joy of picking up K.C.Y.C. Under Control. 

I didn’t even know at that juncture that it was in fact Kerri Chandler, and it, for me, was the perfect alchemy. The sonic alchemy of deep, black heart, astral futurism. That vocal from heaven. There’s that dark, murky deepness that sounded so righteous at 6 a.m. 

It quickly became, from that promo, I think for two pounds, three dollars, whatever the equivalent is, one of my anthems, and I have played it ever since. 

It’s one of my favorite garage tracks from that era, and for me, like Masters at Work or Ron Trent, has this absolute sacred beauty about it which feels like it’s forever. 

One of the greatest moments for me, always.”
